Sometimes in our life, it is time for something to end.  We may be happy about that or we may feel disappointed that it is ending.  It could be our fear of not knowing what is next or losing what we have known.  It may be a special relationship, a career, even an item that we owned. When this occurs, don’t despair.  You are experiencing this loss for one reason and that is so you can receive greater good. You can’t release something without gaining something in return.  The universe wants to fill the void, replacing sadness with joy, loss with gain, death with rebirth. What can you do when a door closes?  Firstly, it is a good idea to release your attachment to the way it was or the way you want it to be.  Then be patient and wait.  It will come when the time is right and you are ready. Perhaps a useful affirmation is “a new door in my life stands open before me”.

This week’s video discusses the importance of investing in yourself. Working with adult learners, I am meeting some amazing people. What I have been surprised by is how negative some of the self-talk is and how these people often put themselves last - whether that is their health, their career, their education. It is empowering helping and supporting these people. It can also be frustrating when you can see their potential but they can’t. I honestly believe we need to invest in ourselves so that we can be the best for those around us. Action step: What can you do today that means you are becoming the best version of you?

This video discusses what is your passion and desire. It is funny how life works out at times. When I was young, I really wanted to be a teacher. This didn’t happen for various reasons, but now I am teaching adults and I love it. I am inspired and passionate and receive so much value form this. When I stop and reflect, my whole life has just about involved being in education. I didn’t realise it, which is strange, but it has. Is it time you stop and reflect to see where your career has taken you? Are you happy? Are you passionate? Are you excited? This video discusses when life bumps you around. Personal example: I coach junior sport and recently while filling in for another coach, one of the parents verbally abused me. I couldn’t believe it occurred and was really surprised how much this affected me. I could not eat Lost sleep Emotional … However, I did want to move forward and am well aware that forgiveness is key. I found it hard to forgive at first; I couldn’t come up with a reason why to forgive them. I tried another tack – what lesson have I learnt from this experience. I identified my lesson. Then I was able to be grateful for the lesson they have taught me and then I could forgive and move forward. Action: Is there anyone in your life that you need to forgive?

A resolution is an intention, not a plan. Many people at the start of the New Year jump into action – any type of action – without thinking or investing time to create a clear sustainable plan. Many studies have been done on the top 10 New Year’s Resolutions and they were: Improve financial situation Lose weight Develop a healthy habit (eating, exercise) Change employment Develop a regular saving plan Break an unhealthy habit (smoking, alcohol, overeating) Spend more time with family and friends Other Get organised Develop a new skill or talent This top 10 list doesn’t vary much each year. Why is that? It’s because we set the intention but we don’t plan to implement it. What we need to stick to our new year’s resolutions is willpower. We need to give our New Year’s Resolution an action. For example, if you want to lose weight then the action may be walk 3 days a week. It is all about the small new habits we want to develop.
